South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged African nations to enhance cooperation in tackling migration challenges across the continent, emphasizing that no single country can address this issue independently.

Ramaphosa issued this call amid rising concerns about irregular migration, border security, and the movement of people within Africa. He encouraged governments to implement coordinated policies that balance national security with human rights protection.

The South African leader highlighted that migration is a shared challenge across the continent, necessitating collective solutions through stronger partnerships among African governments, regional organizations, and international stakeholders.

He pointed out that improved cooperation could effectively address the root causes of migration, such as conflict, poverty, unemployment, climate change, and economic inequality, while promoting safe, orderly, and legal migration routes.

Ramaphosa also stressed the importance of combating human trafficking, transnational crime, and undocumented migration without compromising the dignity and rights of migrants.

His statements coincided with renewed diplomatic efforts between South Africa and Nigeria following recent attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa, which had raised concerns throughout the continent.

The president reiterated his government’s dedication to collaborating with African partners to create sustainable migration policies that foster economic growth, regional integration, and peaceful coexistence.

Observers note that Ramaphosa’s appeal underscores a growing recognition that migration is a continent-wide issue that demands long-term cooperative efforts rather than isolated actions by individual countries.
