The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has cautioned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration should be accountable for the safety of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, amid rising concerns regarding his security.

In a statement released on Monday, the opposition party claimed that recent activities involving El-Rufai have intensified fears of political intimidation and harassment. They called on security agencies to ensure his protection and uphold the rule of law.

The ADC urged the Federal Government to safeguard the safety and fundamental rights of the former governor, emphasizing that every Nigerian, regardless of political stance, deserves equal legal protection.

The party stressed that democratic governance flourishes through tolerance, respect for differing opinions, and adherence to constitutional principles. They cautioned against actions that might be perceived as politically driven.

Furthermore, the party appealed to security agencies to perform their duties professionally and impartially, avoiding actions that could heighten political tensions as the 2027 general election approaches.

This statement emerges amidst intensified political realignments and exchanges between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties as preparations for the next general election gain momentum.

At the time of reporting, the Presidency and relevant security agencies had not provided an official response to the ADC’s statement.

Political analysts note that this development highlights the increasingly tense political climate as parties and key political figures ramp up consultations and strategic positioning in anticipation of the 2027 elections.
