The Osun State Police Command has released the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Teslim Igbalaye, following his arrest in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged electoral offences.
Igbalaye was taken into custody alongside five other suspects after police raided his residence in Osogbo, where officers recovered Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), a voters’ register, cash amounting to ₦4.81 million, and other items.
Among those arrested was Abiodun Arowomole, popularly known as “Ashipa,” whom the police described as a wanted murder suspect on the command’s watch list. Others arrested during the operation include Taiwo Akande, Lukman Adeyemo, Muftau Olaoye, and Musiliu Aderemi.
Confirming the development on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the SSG had been released from custody but stressed that investigations into the case were still ongoing.
“I can only tell you that the SSG, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, has been released this afternoon, and the investigation is still ongoing,” Ojelabi said.
The police have yet to disclose whether the remaining suspects will also be released or formally charged as investigations continue.
The case has attracted significant public attention following allegations of vote-buying and other possible electoral offences, with the police maintaining that the recovered exhibits are undergoing further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
