Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled an attempted terrorist attack on a military base in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing several attackers and rescuing nine kidnapped civilians.
The Nigerian Army disclosed that the attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on August 2, 2026, when armed terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base (FOB) under the cover of darkness.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, vigilant troops detected the advancing terrorists and responded with overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to retreat with heavy casualties.
Following the initial gun battle, reinforcement troops launched a pursuit operation against the fleeing terrorists, who had abducted several residents from nearby communities during the attack.
The military said the chase led to the successful rescue of nine abducted civilians, who were recovered unharmed.
However, the operation claimed the lives of one Army officer and one police officer, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds. The injured personnel were airlifted for advanced medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The Army said troops have since secured the area and commenced follow-up operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ losses while maintaining security across the affected communities.
The military described the failed attack as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, saying sustained military pressure continues to weaken their operational capability and morale.
The Army also dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed, insisting that only one Army officer and one police officer lost their lives during the encounter.
It reaffirmed that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across the North-West region.
