Senator Rufai Hanga, the Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, has stepped down from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Representing the Kano Central Senatorial District, Hanga made his departure known in a letter dated August 3, 2026, directed to the NDC Ward Chairman in Dakata Ward, Kano State.
In his letter, Hanga explained that careful consideration and personal reflection led him to resign, allowing him to explore other personal commitments and future career opportunities. He expressed gratitude towards the ward executive committee and party members for their support and collaboration during his tenure with the NDC.
He formally announced, “I am writing to notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective immediately as of August 3, 2026. After thoughtful reflection, I have chosen to exit the party to focus on other personal ventures and career paths. I extend my heartfelt thanks to you, the Ward Executive Committee, and all members of Dakata Ward for the support and camaraderie I experienced within the party. I treasure the relationships formed and the shared experiences from our political activities.
Attached is my official NDC membership card, and I kindly request that my name be removed from the party register at the ward level. I wish success to the party and all its members in their future undertakings.”
Senator Hanga did not reveal any plans regarding his political future or whether he intends to join another party. His resignation occurs amidst ongoing political shifts as various politicians reassess their affiliations and alliances leading up to the 2027 general election.
