President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned a substantial salary hike for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, introducing a revamped pay structure designed to boost the welfare and motivation of military personnel throughout the nation.
The announcement indicates that about 250,000 officers and soldiers will benefit from this salary review, with increments ranging from **30 percent to 80 percent**, depending on their rank. The updated salary package is set to commence on September 1, 2026.
Under this new framework, senior officers from the rank of Colonel and above are slated for a **30 percent** salary rise. Officers from Colonel down to Warrant Officer will enjoy a 50 percent increase, while those in the ranks from Private to Staff Sergeant will receive the highest adjustment of **80 percent**.

This decision underscores the Federal Government’s dedication to acknowledging the sacrifices of the nation’s armed forces, as they continue to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and various security challenges across Nigeria.
The revised salary package will elevate the military’s annual wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, emphasizing the administration’s augmented investment in troop welfare and operational preparedness.
Officials have also reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to fortifying the armed forces by improving welfare, providing better equipment, and integrating modern technology to boost national security and support military efforts nationwide.
