Several people have reportedly been killed and others injured after bandits attacked communities in Zamfara State, destroying homes and forcing residents to flee their communities for safety.
The attacks reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon in Bardoki community in Gummi Local Government Area and Bunkasau in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the state.
The development was disclosed in a post on X by security analyst Bakatsine, who reported that the attackers targeted the two communities, leaving several residents dead and others injured.
According to the report, homes and other properties were destroyed during the attacks, while many residents were forced to abandon their communities as the violence escalated.
“This afternoon, bandits attacked Bardoki in Gummi LGA and Bunkasau in Bukkuyum LGA of Zamfara State. The attacks left several people dead and others injured, with homes and properties destroyed.”
The security analyst also reported that members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (Civilian JTF) who moved towards Bunkasau in an attempt to respond to the attack were caught in an ambush by the bandits.
Community Set Ablaze
Following the attack on Bardoki, the bandits reportedly moved to Ruwan-Kura, where they allegedly set the community ablaze.
The attack reportedly forced more residents to flee their homes in search of safer locations.
Some displaced residents have reportedly taken refuge in Daki Takwas, while others fled to Dargaje.
The situation has heightened fears among residents of affected communities, many of whom have been forced to leave behind their homes, farms, businesses and personal belongings.
Residents Displaced by Violence
The latest attacks add to the continuing security challenges confronting communities across parts of Zamfara State and the wider North-West.
Residents in affected areas continue to face threats from armed groups involved in attacks, kidnappings and destruction of property.
The reported killing of residents and burning of communities have also raised fresh concerns over the safety of civilians in rural areas where security response can be difficult.
The full casualty figure from Sunday’s attacks had not been independently established at the time of the report.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as security operations and assessments continue.
The attacks underline the urgent need for stronger security measures, improved intelligence gathering and faster emergency response to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further loss of lives and displacement.
