Unidentified gunmen have killed Ishaq Yunusa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The incident occurred on Thursday along the Itobe–Ochadamu Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area, according to the Kogi State Police Command.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, said the attack happened around Ojuwo Olijo at approximately 5:00 p.m.
According to the police, armed assailants emerged from the surrounding bush and opened fire on motorists along the highway.
A blue Toyota Corolla was later found abandoned on the road, with Yunusa, who was identified as the driver, found dead inside the vehicle.

Another Occupant Abducted
The police said another occupant of the vehicle was abducted by the gunmen and taken into the surrounding bush.
Security operatives have launched a search operation in the area in an effort to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
The body of the deceased has been evacuated to Grimard Hospital in Anyigba for an autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Naziru Kankarofi, has ordered sustained security operations along the affected corridor and directed officers to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the attackers.
The police also urged motorists and residents living along the route to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The latest attack has renewed concerns over insecurity along major highways in Kogi State, particularly areas vulnerable to armed attacks and kidnapping.
