EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, ESAN CENTRAL LGA, VISITS NEW MARKET AT AGRIC IRRUA, ALONG UROMI-EDENU ROAD, APPEALS TO TRADERS TO VACATE ROADSIDE FOR DESIGNATED STALLS
In furtherance of his administration’s unrelenting commitment to orderliness, public safety, and sustainable commerce within Esan Central Local Government Area, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Prince Abdullahi Momodu (Superlee), on a solemn inspection tour, visited the New Market at Agric Irrua, along Uromi-Edenu Road, where he engaged directly with traders on the pressing matter of roadside trading.
Addressing traders at the market, the Chairman expressed deep concern over the prevailing pattern of roadside trading, noting that the practice not only endangers lives and obstructs free vehicular and pedestrian movement, but also undermines the dignity and organized character of a modern market. He observed, with evident disappointment, that several stalls within the market remained unoccupied even as traders persisted in conducting business along the roadside.
In a gesture reflecting his administration’s characteristic blend of firmness and compassion, the Chairman appealed passionately to the traders to relocate into the vacant stalls provided within the market, assuring them that the relocation was in their own collective interest, and in the interest of public order and safety.
Responding to the Chairman’s appeal, the traders raised concerns bordering on the inadequacy of market infrastructure, particularly the absence of functional toilet facilities and the lack of a designated park for the offloading of goods, factors they identified as significant deterrents to their full occupation of the stalls.
The Chairman received these concerns with the seriousness they deserve, and reassured the traders of his administration’s readiness to look into the provision of the requisite infrastructure, even as he reiterated his call for cooperation and orderly conduct in the interim. He further charged relevant departments to commence necessary assessments toward addressing the infrastructural gaps identified.
The Chairman’s visit underscores his administration’s abiding resolve to reposition markets across Esan Central Local Government Area as safe, organized, and thriving centres of commerce for the benefit of all.
