The electricity distribution company announced the development during its September virtual stakeholder engagement, a monthly meeting designed to provide customers with updates and address issues affecting electricity services.

According to the company, qualified customers will receive their refunds as credits on their electricity vending transactions throughout the approved refund period.

How customers can check their refunds

Ikeja Electric said customers can track the progress of their refunds online by entering either their meter number or account number.

The refund dashboard provides information such as:

  • The original cost of the meter
  • Number of refunds received
  • Monthly refund amount
  • Total refund credited so far
  • Date of the most recent refund
  • Refund token applicable to the customer

The company added that refund tokens would be sent to customers through their registered phone numbers or email addresses.

Customers who experience difficulties or have questions about their MAP refunds can contact Ikeja Electric through its official complaint channels or visit the nearest undertaking office.

Ikeja Electric warns against unsafe electrical work

During the stakeholder engagement, the company also raised concerns about the dangers associated with unauthorised electrical work.

Olaniyi Olayiwola, Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment at Ikeja Electric, warned customers against allowing unqualified electricians or other unauthorised persons to work on the company’s infrastructure.

He specifically advised customers not to engage individuals to climb electricity poles, work on power lines, tamper with electrical installations or carry out illegal connections.

Olayiwola said recent incidents involving unauthorised electrical activities had resulted in fatalities.

He urged residents who notice dangerous activities around Ikeja Electric infrastructure to report them rather than attempting to intervene themselves.

“Please do not engage electricians to climb Ikeja Electric poles. If you see someone carrying out unsafe activities around our infrastructure, kindly report to us,” he said.

Customers urged to keep away from power infrastructure

Olayiwola also called on residents and communities to maintain sufficient clearance around high-voltage electricity lines.

He identified encroachment on power infrastructure and inadequate right-of-way as continuing safety concerns that could put residents and electricity workers at risk.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Okotie, Head of Corporate Communications at Ikeja Electric, said regular engagement with customers remains important to improving service delivery.

He encouraged customers to use the company’s official communication and complaint channels whenever they need information or assistance.

According to Okotie, customer engagement is intended not only to provide information but also to ensure that customers know how to stay safe, seek assistance and properly report their concerns.
