At least 14 people were killed and 57 others injured in a series of Russian drone attacks across Ukraine between September 26 and 27, according to Ukrainian officials.
The overnight strikes targeted several areas, including the capital, Kyiv, and the southern Odesa region, damaging residential and commercial properties as well as critical infrastructure.
In Kyiv, a man was killed after a Russian drone struck a non-residential building in the Solomianskyi district early on September 27.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said firefighters discovered the victim’s body while battling the fire that followed the attack.
Another drone hit a single-storey vehicle service station in the same district, triggering another blaze. Emergency crews managed to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby food business.
The State Emergency Service said both fires had been brought under control at about 3am.
Ukrainian authorities also reported damage at several other locations in Kyiv, including a school, warehouses and communications facilities.
Several people were injured in the capital, including two 16-year-old girls, according to local officials.
Odesa also hit
The Odesa region was also targeted in what authorities described as a separate large-scale attack.
Officials said one person was killed and two others injured, while several facilities were damaged.
Among the reported sites affected were a residential building, medical facility, hotel, shop and grain storage facility.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched about 170 attack drones during the night, including 76 jet-powered Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles.
The latest strikes form part of a continuing series of Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure amid the ongoing war between the two countries.
Ukrainian officials said the combined attacks across the country resulted in at least 14 deaths and 57 injuries.
Emergency services continued responding to fires and assessing damage at affected locations.
