Police say investigation is ongoing as three suspects face allegations relating to sexual conduct
The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over allegations of engaging in same-sex sexual acts.
The suspects were identified by the police as Ayomide Lukeman, 22; Shuaib Aremu, 22; and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23. They were arrested by operatives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit’s Saki Operational Base.
The police spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the arrests followed intelligence received on September 29, 2026, concerning the alleged involvement of individuals in what the command described as “unnatural sexual conduct”.
According to Ayanlade, the Commissioner of Police directed the Monitoring Unit to verify the information and take appropriate action, leading to the arrests.
Police outline preliminary findings
The spokesperson said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had allegedly admitted to engaging in homosexual acts.
He further alleged that two of the men reported having sexual relations with the third suspect on several occasions.
The police said investigations were continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the allegations and determine whether other individuals were connected to the case.
The command reiterated its commitment to conducting the investigation professionally, impartially and in accordance with the law.
Legal context
Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013, prohibits same-sex marriages and civil unions and provides penalties for specified offences under the law. The Act prescribes up to 14 years’ imprisonment for a person convicted of entering into a same-sex marriage contract or civil union. Other offences under the Act carry separate penalties.
The specific allegations against the three men remain subject to investigation. Their arrest does not establish guilt, and any criminal liability would have to be determined through the applicable legal process.
The police have not, in the information reported so far, announced the conclusion of the investigation or a court judgment in the case.
