Sudan’s armed forces have successfully taken control of a key highway, marking a significant advance against the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF), according to military insiders.
This highway, a crucial transport and supply corridor, is anticipated to enhance the army’s effectiveness by allowing better movement of troops, military equipment, humanitarian aid, and essential supplies to areas impacted by the conflict.
Military officials reported that government forces secured the road after fierce clashes with RSF fighters, forcing the paramilitary group to withdraw from several positions along the route. This operation is considered one of the latest victories for the Sudanese Armed Forces in their mission to reclaim territory since the conflict began in April 2023.
While the army has announced full control of the highway, the RSF has yet to respond, and independent verification of these claims is not currently available.
The conflict, involving the Sudanese Armed Forces led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF under General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), has plunged Sudan into a severe humanitarian crisis. Thousands have been killed, millions displaced, and vital infrastructure has been destroyed since the war’s inception.
