NDLEA Destroys N301bn Worth of Seized Cocaine, Heroin and Other Drugs in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently incinerated over 329,865 kilograms of illicit drugs in Lagos, with an estimated worth of around N301 billion. This court-mandated destruction took place on Monday at Navy Town, Ojo, and involved narcotics connected to concluded cases as well as abandoned seizures.

The range of destroyed substances included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ephedrine, khat leaves, tramadol, codeine syrup, and cannabis, featuring strains such as “Canadian Loud” and skunk. These drugs were seized during various operations conducted throughout Lagos from April 2025 to May 2026.

The NDLEA’s Lagos Strategic Command accounted for 246,864.535 kg of the total, while additional 83,001.05 kg were contributed by specialized commands and units like those at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Tincan and Apapa seaports, and the Marine Command and Special Operations Unit.

At the destruction site, NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), emphasized that the event underscored the government’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks to safeguard Nigerians. He further cautioned drug lords and their financiers that law enforcement agencies would relentlessly pursue them despite the sophistication of their operations.

The gathering was attended by senior government and security officials, including representatives from the Lagos State Government, Nigeria Customs Service, and Nigerian Navy, all of whom vowed continued collaboration in combating illicit drug activities.
