Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke collected the certificate on Wednesday at the INEC office in Osogbo, where he was greeted by cheering supporters and members of the Accord Party.
The governor celebrated the occasion with dancing and thanked his supporters before proceeding to the Ataoja Palace, where a large crowd gathered to welcome him.
Adeleke Secures Second Term
INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the election after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished further behind with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 LGAs.
The result gives Adeleke another four-year term as governor of the state.
Governor Promises Economic Transformation
Speaking after receiving his Certificate of Return, Adeleke described the election outcome as a victory for democracy and reaffirmed his commitment to delivering on his promises to the people of Osun.
He said his second term would focus on transforming the state from an economy heavily dependent on the civil service into a more productive and industrialised economy.
The governor has received congratulatory messages from President Bola Tinubu, the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and other political leaders following his re-election.
The presentation of the Certificate of Return formally confirms Adeleke’s mandate for another term as the governor of Osun State.
