Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has rejected his inclusion in the policy team of African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Moghalu said he was neither consulted nor asked for his consent before his name was included in Atiku’s 2027 presidential campaign structure.
His reaction came shortly after Atiku’s campaign unveiled its Presidential Campaign Council on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Moghalu was listed as a member of the campaign’s Policy Team, headed by economist and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Moghalu denies membership
In a statement, Moghalu said he was surprised to see his name listed as part of the campaign team.
He made it clear that he had not agreed to participate in Atiku’s campaign.
“I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu stated.
He further clarified that he is not part of Atiku’s policy team, either formally or informally.
He also said he does not serve as an adviser to the former vice president.
Moghalu says he left partisan politics
The former CBN deputy governor said he has stayed away from partisan politics since 2022.
According to Moghalu, he remains politically non-partisan and is not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria.
He said his current work is focused on public policy and strategic advisory activities.
Moghalu identified himself as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa), a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.
He also serves as Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.
‘Statesmanship, not partisanship’
Moghalu stressed that remaining committed to Nigeria does not require partisan political involvement.
He said he remains concerned about the country’s progress but has chosen to maintain a non-partisan position.
“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria and its progress, but such commitment does not have to entail ANY partisan alignment,” he said.
“I have adopted the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.”
The clarification came after Atiku’s campaign announced its council, which includes Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chairman, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as deputy chairman and Senator Austin Akobundu as Director-General and Campaign Manager.
