Manchester City have reportedly been found guilty of 114 of the 115 financial charges brought against the club by the Premier League.
The verdict was delivered by an independent commission following a lengthy investigation into the club’s financial affairs between 2009 and 2018.
According to a report by The Athletic, the commission dismissed one of the 115 charges but found City guilty on the remaining 114.
Premier League charges
The Premier League launched its case against Manchester City in February 2023 after a four-year investigation into alleged breaches of its financial regulations.
The charges covered nine seasons, from 2009 to 2018.
They included allegations concerning the accuracy of financial information provided by the club and various aspects of its financial dealings.
Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing and maintained that they complied with the Premier League’s regulations.
Sanctions yet to be decided
Despite the reported guilty verdict, Manchester City have not yet been handed a final punishment.
The independent commission is expected to determine the appropriate sanctions, with reports indicating that a range of possibilities remains open.
The club could also appeal the commission’s findings.
A Manchester City spokesperson told The Athletic that the Premier League process was still ongoing and that significant elements of the case remained to be completed.
The club also reiterated its position that it has respected due process throughout the lengthy proceedings.
Long-running financial case
The case is among the most extensive disciplinary proceedings involving a Premier League club.
The reported verdict now moves the dispute into its next phase, with the focus expected to shift to the sanctions process and any potential appeal by Manchester City.
Until the final sanctions are determined, the consequences for the club remain unclear.
