President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to lose hope, saying peace and development are gradually returning to the country.
Tinubu delivered the message through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who represented him at a special Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, September 25.
The prayer was part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, which will be commemorated on October 1, 2026.
Tinubu says Nigeria is on the right path
According to the President’s message, Nigeria’s 66 years of independence represent a period of growth, challenges, missed opportunities and national development.
Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties the country has experienced over the years but said Nigerians should remain hopeful about the future.
He said peace and development would return as the country continues its democratic journey.
The President also urged citizens to pay attention to the direction of his administration, saying his government was addressing what he described as accumulated mistakes and missed opportunities from previous administrations.
President seeks support for ongoing reforms
Tinubu said Nigerians had made significant sacrifices for the country and maintained that the government was working to address longstanding challenges.
He called for continued support for the reforms and programmes of his administration.
The President also said Nigeria was on the right path and that there was “light at the end of the tunnel.”
In his message, he asked Nigerians to give the administration more opportunity to complete the work it had started.
Dignitaries attend Independence prayer
The special prayer session was attended by several senior government officials and traditional leaders.
Those present included Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo and Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, among others.
The Federal Government has scheduled several activities ahead of October 1, including a church service on September 27, a public lecture on September 30 and a nationwide broadcast by President Tinubu on Independence Day.
