Air Peace has explained the recent disruption to some of its flights at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, blaming the initial delays on the unavailability of Jet A1 aviation fuel and a subsequent weather-related restriction.
The airline issued the clarification after videos and reports of passengers affected by the disruptions circulated on social media.
According to Air Peace, the shortage of aviation fuel affected not only its operations but also other airlines operating from Abuja.
The airline said its affected flights began operating after Jet A1 fuel became available.
Abuja-Maiduguri Flight Affected by Weather
Air Peace said a separate issue prevented its Abuja-Maiduguri service from operating as planned.
The airline explained that an extension had initially been granted for the flight. However, by the time the aircraft was ready for boarding, prevailing Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions meant the extension could no longer be used.
Air Peace said the flight could not operate beyond sunset under the circumstances.
As a result, the Abuja-Maiduguri service was cancelled and rescheduled for the following day.
Passengers Given Accommodation
The airline said it kept affected passengers informed during the disruption and provided refreshments while they waited.
Following the cancellation of the Maiduguri-bound flight, passengers were also provided with hotel accommodation, according to the airline.
Air Peace apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and said safety remained its primary consideration.
The airline added that it would continue to place the safety and wellbeing of passengers at the centre of its operations.
