Wike Challenges Amaechi to Show Projects Attracted to Rivers After 24 Years in Power

Wike made the remarks during an interactive meeting with traditional leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

According to the FCT minister, Amaechi spent several years occupying influential government positions but left questions about the benefits his community received during that period.

Wike referred to Amaechi’s reported eight-year tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, eight years as governor and another eight years as a federal minister, describing the combined period as 24 years in leadership positions.

He challenged community members to identify the projects or development initiatives that Amaechi attracted to the area during those years.

Wike Highlights Leadership and Community Development

During his address, Wike argued that public office should provide opportunities to develop people, strengthen communities and prepare new leaders for the future.

He criticised what he described as a political culture in which individuals seek to retain influence without creating opportunities for others to advance.

The minister also questioned the value of leadership that depends on one individual, warning that political structures could collapse when their central figure leaves the scene.

Wike said he believed leaders had a responsibility to support the aspirations of their people and create opportunities for younger politicians to occupy positions of responsibility.

He recalled his own experience as a former Minister of State for Education, claiming that he could identify projects he attracted to Rivers State while serving in that capacity.

The minister used the comparison to challenge Amaechi’s record, although his allegations were not independently verified in the account of the meeting.

FCT Minister Says He Has No Further Personal Ambitions

Wike also spoke about his political career and his satisfaction with the positions he has held.

He said he had served as governor and minister and did not consider returning to the governorship or becoming a local government chairman necessary for his personal fulfilment.

According to him, his current priority is to continue serving his people rather than pursuing additional political positions for personal benefit.

The minister attributed his achievements to God’s grace and said his main prayer was for continued good health and a long life.

Wike Speaks on Political Loyalty and Disappointment

The former Rivers State governor also cautioned political supporters against placing absolute trust in promises made by individuals.

He said political relationships could sometimes end in disappointment and encouraged people to continue doing their best regardless of how others respond.

Wike maintained that his faith in God remained central to how he approached political relationships and unexpected setbacks.

His comments come amid continuing political differences between the FCT minister and Amaechi, two prominent figures in Rivers State politics.

The exchange has again brought questions about political leadership, community development and the legacy of public office into focus.
