President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ended his extended working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Lagos, the Presidency has confirmed.
The State House said on Tuesday, September 29, that the President had commenced his journey back to Nigeria, with his aircraft expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the evening.
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30 for London to begin his annual leave, which was initially announced as a three-week working vacation. After spending about a week in London, he travelled to Paris, where he held official engagements, including meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré.
The Presidency later announced that Tinubu would extend his stay in Europe by a few days before eventually confirming his return for Tuesday.
According to the State House, the President decided to travel first to Lagos rather than Abuja in order to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, widely remembered for his role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
The President is also scheduled to participate in activities connected with Nigeria’s October 1 Independence anniversary while in Lagos.
The Presidency had earlier said Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to direct government affairs during his stay abroad.
His return also comes as Nigeria’s political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
