The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has brushed aside calls for his dismissal following the unfortunate passing of Mary Habila, one of his employees, at his private residence.
In a video released online on Monday, Umahi revealed that President Bola Tinubu advised him to remain focused on completing infrastructure projects despite the ongoing controversy.
Umahi mentioned that certain individuals tried to make the incident political by demanding his removal, even though investigations into Habila’s death are still underway.
He expressed surprise that some people used the death of one of his valued workers as political leverage, questioning why the President should consider his dismissal under such circumstances.
Umahi shared that President Tinubu expressed his support and encouraged him to continue with his duties.
Rather than succumbing to the pressure, the minister is steadfast in his commitment to advancing the Federal Government’s road infrastructure programs, regardless of public criticism.
The incident involving Mary Habila in June has sparked significant reactions across the nation, with calls from various quarters for Umahi’s removal and a comprehensive investigation into the incident. However, the authorities have yet to release conclusive findings regarding the circumstances surrounding Habila’s death.
