A man has reportedly been apprehended for allegedly impersonating a senior officer of the Nigerian military by posing as “Major General M.T. Ibrahim.”

According to reports circulating on social media, the suspect was arrested while dressed in a military uniform bearing the rank of a Major General, one of the highest positions in the Nigerian Army.

The reports allege that the man falsely presented himself as a serving senior military officer and used the assumed identity to deceive members of the public before his alleged activities were uncovered.

Authorities are yet to issue a comprehensive official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the arrest, the suspect’s identity, or any charges that may be filed against him.

Military authorities have consistently warned that impersonating members of the Armed Forces is a criminal offence punishable under Nigerian law. They have also urged the public to verify the identities of individuals claiming to be military personnel and to report suspicious activities to security agencies.

The Nigerian military has repeatedly stressed that military ranks are earned through years of rigorous training, discipline, dedication, and distinguished service to the nation. Wearing military uniforms or insignia without lawful authority, or falsely claiming to hold a military rank, is a serious offence.

As of the time of filing this report, the authenticity of the social media claims and the full details surrounding the alleged arrest had not been independently verified. The public is advised to await an official statement from the relevant security authorities.
