A fire has engulfed the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) in Abuja, causing panic as emergency responders battle to contain the blaze.
The fire reportedly started on the fourth floor of the building before spreading, with thick smoke seen rising from the premises.
An eyewitness, Anthony Ameh, a staff member of Zenith Bank operating within the building, said the fire was still raging despite the deployment of several firefighting teams.
According to him, operatives of the Federal Fire Service responded to the emergency, but had yet to bring the situation under control.
“The fire is so intense. About four trucks of the Fire Service are here, but they have not been able to quench it,” he said.
The cause of the fire has not been established, while there was no immediate official confirmation of casualties or the extent of damage.
Authorities are expected to commence an investigation after the blaze is brought under control.
