Eligible African investors, including non-Nigerians, can participate in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO through Bamboo without necessarily having a Nigerian BVN or Nigerian bank account.
Bamboo currently offers a Nominee Beneficiary account for eligible investors. Under this arrangement, Bamboo holds the investment through its nominee structure while the investor is registered as the beneficiary.
According to Bamboo’s current information, residents of more than 50 African countries can use this route to apply for the Dangote Refinery IPO.

Four African Countries Currently Not Supported
Bamboo specifically states that the following countries are currently not supported for this investment route:
- Ghana
- Kenya
- Eswatini
- South Africa
Therefore, a person living in Ghana, Kenya, Eswatini or South Africa cannot currently complete the applicable KYC process through this Nominee Beneficiary route.
You Do Not Have to Be Nigerian
One of the important changes to the Dangote IPO process is that eligible non-Nigerian Africans do not necessarily need a Nigerian BVN or Nigerian bank account.
Bamboo says eligible users can invest through its Nominee Beneficiary structure.
For example, a Cameroonian resident in Cameroon can apply using a residential address in Cameroon and a passport from a supported African country. The passport country and residence country do not necessarily have to be the same.
What You Need to Complete KYC
Eligible applicants generally need:
- A residential address in a supported African country
- An international passport issued by a supported African country
- A phone number for verification
- Personal information required during onboarding
- Information required for the investment profile
Bamboo’s verification process may also require applicants to scan their passport and complete additional identity checks.
What If You Live Outside Africa?
This is an important distinction.
Bamboo allows people in various countries outside Africa to sign up for the platform. However, for the Dangote IPO’s Nominee Beneficiary route, KYC currently requires a residential address in a supported African country.
Therefore, an African citizen who lives permanently outside Africa may be able to start the registration process but may not be able to complete the required verification under the current rules.
How to Fund Your USD Wallet
After successful verification, eligible investors can fund their USD wallet using supported currencies and payment methods.
Bamboo says investors can fund their wallets in currencies including:
- USD
- GBP
- EUR
- CAD
and more than 50 supported currencies, depending on the funding method and location.
Misan by Bamboo
Investors can fund their wallet through Misan by Bamboo, using a virtual account and bank transfer.
Misan supports USD, GBP, EUR and CAD for the relevant funding arrangements.
Paystack
Eligible users can also fund their account with a card through Paystack, subject to the currencies and payment options available to them.
Flutterwave
Flutterwave is another card-funding option available to eligible users.
Payment availability can vary according to the investor’s country, card and payment provider.
What Is Misan by Bamboo?
Misan is Bamboo’s remittance and global payments platform.
It provides services designed to help Africans send and receive money, use virtual USD cards and conduct international transactions.
For eligible Dangote IPO investors, Misan can provide one of the available methods for funding the USD wallet required for the investment process.
How Long Does It Take to Get a Virtual Account?
Bamboo says creation of a virtual account can take approximately five minutes to one hour, depending on the verification checks.
In some cases, the process can take longer.
Investors should therefore complete verification and funding arrangements before the IPO subscription deadline.
Why Does Bamboo Ask About Income and Occupation?
Applicants may be required to provide information about their:
- Occupation
- Income
- Expected transaction activity
These details form part of regulatory and compliance requirements for creating the virtual account.
Applicants should provide accurate information that reflects their actual circumstances.
Funding Fees
The applicable funding charges provided by Bamboo include:
| Funding Method | Fee |
|---|---|
| GBP | 0.1%, minimum £3, maximum £10 |
| EUR | 0.1%, minimum €3, maximum €10 |
| CAD | 0.20%, minimum CAD 3, maximum CAD 10 |
| USD ACH | 0.5%, minimum $5, maximum $12 |
| USD Wire | 0.5%, minimum $5, maximum $25 |
| Paystack/Flutterwave USD card | 2.9% processing fee |
These charges relate to funding the wallet and are separate from the investment itself.
Withdrawal Fees
Bamboo states that withdrawals from the USD wallet attract a $45 withdrawal fee.
Withdrawals to a bank account typically take approximately five to seven business days, although the actual timing can vary because of settlement cycles, banking hours and verification requirements.

Important Information for International Investors
Being able to download or register on Bamboo does not automatically mean that an investor can complete the Dangote IPO verification process.
The key requirement is the investor’s African residential address and qualifying passport.
For example, someone living in Cameroon can currently use a Cameroonian residential address and a supported African passport. However, someone living permanently in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or another country outside Africa cannot currently complete KYC through this route solely because they hold an African passport.
Investors should also confirm the current requirements directly in the Bamboo app before sending funds because eligibility, fees and supported countries can change.
Dangote IPO: A Wider Opportunity for African Investors
The availability of the Nominee Beneficiary structure significantly broadens access to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO for eligible African investors.
Residents of countries such as Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe, for example, may have different eligibility depending on whether their country is currently supported.
At present, however, Ghana, Kenya, Eswatini and South Africa remain excluded from this specific Bamboo route.
Prospective investors should therefore verify their country of residence before beginning the application.
