U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported a former National Football League (NFL) player to Kenya after completing a prison sentence for criminal convictions, the agency has announced.
According to ICE Chicago, the former athlete, a Kenyan national who was living in the United States illegally, was removed from the country following an immigration enforcement operation. Officials said the deportation was carried out after all legal procedures had been concluded.
ICE stated that the individual had been convicted of multiple criminal offences in the United States, making him subject to removal under federal immigration laws. Following the completion of his custodial sentence, he was transferred to ICE custody pending deportation.
The agency said the deportation reflects its continued efforts to identify, detain, and remove non-U.S. citizens who have been convicted of serious crimes and are deemed removable under U.S. immigration law.
Officials added that ICE works closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to enforce immigration laws while prioritising individuals with criminal records who pose a threat to public safety.
While the agency confirmed that the deportee previously played in the NFL, it did not disclose additional operational details beyond those contained in its official statement.
The case comes as immigration enforcement remains a major policy issue in the United States, with federal authorities continuing operations targeting individuals who have exhausted their legal options to remain in the country.
ICE reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing U.S. immigration laws and ensuring that foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes are removed in accordance with existing legal procedures.
