Troops conducting counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s North-East recorded significant operational gains in August, with 152 terrorists reportedly killed and 142 others arrested.
The figures cover operations carried out by troops of Operation HADIN KAI between August 1 and August 31, 2026.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the figures in a report shared on his official X account on Tuesday.
According to the report, those arrested included suspected individuals involved in providing logistical support to terrorist groups.
Another 219 terrorists reportedly surrendered to the troops during the same period, adding to the pressure on insurgent groups operating across the North-East.
The military also deployed air assets to support its ground operations. Ten successful air interdictions were reportedly carried out against terrorist movements, logistics activities and other identified targets within the operational theatre.
Ground troops also destroyed or neutralised nine improvised explosive devices (IEDs), preventing the explosives from being used against security personnel or civilians.
The operations further resulted in the recovery of a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition. Security forces reportedly recovered 58 weapons and explosive-related items, alongside 1,184 rounds of ammunition.
Military personnel also seized 16 mobility assets allegedly associated with terrorist activities. The recovered items included motorcycles, bicycles, tricycles and other vehicles.
The latest operational figures indicate continued efforts by Nigerian security forces to weaken terrorist networks by targeting their personnel, weapons, supply channels and means of movement.
The combined use of ground troops and air support remains a key part of the military’s strategy to disrupt terrorist formations and restrict their ability to operate freely across the region.
