The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has given the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and several other federal agencies a 72-hour deadline to appear before it. This action comes in response to their continued failure to address audit queries.
The committee issued this ultimatum after these agencies consistently ignored invitations to discuss issues highlighted in audit reports presented to the National Assembly.
According to the committee, these agencies are required to present themselves within the specified timeframe to provide explanations for the outstanding audit observations.
The Senate warned that persistent non-compliance with its summons would violate legislative oversight responsibilities and could lead to further legal action.
Lawmakers emphasized that this initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public funds across government institutions.
The committee also reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) adhere to audit recommendations and constitutional requirements for public financial management.
The agencies involved are expected to address the audit queries and clarify financial record issues when they meet the committee within the given 72-hour period.
