Troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested two suspected herders following an alleged attack on residents harvesting crops in Sabon Layi village, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post shared on X on Wednesday.
The troops, deployed in Sabon Layi under Operation Hard Knock, responded to a distress call concerning an alleged attack by Fulani herders.
Upon arriving at the scene, the soldiers reportedly found an elderly woman who had sustained injuries during the incident.
The troops subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the reported attack. The arrests are expected to assist security authorities in investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and determining those responsible.
The development comes amid continuing security concerns in parts of Plateau State, where tensions involving farming communities and herders have periodically resulted in violent confrontations.
Security agencies have continued to conduct operations across vulnerable communities in an effort to protect residents, prevent attacks and maintain peace.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further, while the identities and specific roles of the arrested suspects will be established through due process.
The suspects remain allegations at this stage, and their guilt can only be determined by a competent court.
