Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, describing the President’s economic reforms as difficult but necessary for Nigeria’s long-term development.
Soludo made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he called on progressive political forces across the country to unite behind Tinubu.
The governor said Nigeria had never witnessed such a level of consensus among political and economic elites regarding the direction of the country’s economic reforms.
According to him, the policies introduced by the Tinubu administration represent a difficult but necessary path towards economic transformation, adding that the next phase should focus on translating stability and reforms into shared prosperity.
“We’re going from stability, reform to shared prosperity,” Soludo said, describing the next phase as an acceleration of Nigeria’s transformation through what he called “pragmatic progressivism.”
The Anambra governor also challenged the practice of measuring progressive political representation solely by the number of elected officials belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He argued that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) should also be recognised in discussions about progressive political forces, insisting that the party’s elected representatives should be included in the overall calculations.
Soludo maintained that including APGA’s elected officials would raise the total number of progressive officeholders beyond the figure cited at the event.
He further urged progressive political leaders to put aside their differences and work together towards building what he described as a new Nigeria.
Addressing Tinubu, the governor expressed confidence in the administration’s direction and said continuity would provide an opportunity to accelerate ongoing reforms and deepen the country’s economic transformation.
Soludo also reaffirmed his commitment to working with the President, declaring that APGA was prepared to support the administration’s governance process.
He concluded by calling for unity among progressive forces, stressing the importance of sustaining the reform agenda and moving the country towards shared prosperity.
