The Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill has initiated a process inviting members of the public and relevant stakeholders to submit memoranda regarding the proposed establishment of state police in Nigeria. This announcement was made by Nnadubem Moghalu, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Planning and Research, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Moghalu stated that the Federal Government is actively encouraging wide public participation to ensure that the envisioned state policing structure truly represents the perspectives and interests of Nigerians. He further explained that this call for memoranda is part of the government’s broader consultation approach, designed to develop a comprehensive legal and operational framework to guide the implementation of state police.

He emphasized that the Presidential Working Group is dedicated to involving citizens, experts, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders before finalizing the proposed National Policing Bill. The input from these memoranda will play a crucial role in shaping the legislation by offering valuable insights into key areas like structure, operations, oversight, funding, and accountability mechanisms for state police.
This initiative is a component of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to reform Nigeria’s policing system, aiming to establish a constitutional framework that supports both federal and state policing while enhancing national security.
