Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have uncovered 3,120 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and equipment believed to have been used for illegal refining in a forest in Rivers State.
The discovery was made on August 25 during an anti-illegal bunkering operation in Okarki Forest, Ahoada West Local Government Area, according to security sources.
The troops reportedly recovered 78 sacks containing about 3,120 litres of suspected stolen crude oil, alongside eight drum ovens, two coolants, three drum reservoirs, four iron buckets and four metal pipes with a combined estimated length of 200 metres.
The materials were reportedly concealed inside the forest and are suspected to have been used for illegal crude oil processing.
The operation was conducted under Operation Delta Safe, as security forces continue efforts to disrupt crude oil theft, illegal bunkering and unauthorised refining activities across the Niger Delta.
Authorities say such operations are aimed at protecting Nigeria’s oil resources, reducing economic losses and tackling criminal activities affecting oil-producing communities.
