Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has predicted victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Fayose said Tinubu could defeat former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
He made the statement on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Fayose speaks on Tinubu
Fayose said Atiku and Obi would face a difficult contest against Tinubu.
He maintained that even an alliance between the two opposition figures may not change the outcome.
“Even if they come together, this man, President Tinubu, will still defeat them,” Fayose said.
He added that contesting separately could make their challenge even harder.
Southwest may be crucial
The former governor focused on the Southwest.
He said the region could give Tinubu a large advantage in 2027.
Fayose mentioned Ekiti, Osun and Ondo states.
He questioned the level of support Atiku and Obi could receive there.
“Who will vote for them in Ekiti? Who will vote for them in Osun? Who will vote for them in Ondo?” he asked.
Fayose also questioned their political structures in the region.
Obasanjo example
Fayose also recalled former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s failed third-term bid.
He said the episode showed how political realities can affect major elections.
According to Fayose, Nigeria’s political system also has unwritten conventions that can influence political contests.
2027 election
The 2027 presidential race is already attracting attention across Nigeria.
Political parties are working to strengthen their structures.
They are also seeking alliances and wider support ahead of the election.
Fayose’s comments have added to the growing debate over the contest.
