Lagos State has emerged as the state with the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figures on Tuesday during the commission’s World Press Conference in Abuja.
The briefing formed part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the commission providing updates on the country’s electoral preparations and voter registration figures.
According to the figures presented by INEC, Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, placing it ahead of all other states.
Kano State follows in second position with 6,000,570 registered voters.

Kaduna occupies third place with 4,000,640 registered voters, while Katsina follows with 3,876,051.
Oyo State ranks fifth with 3,588,111 registered voters, followed by Delta with 3,525,988.
Rivers State has 3,000,734 registered voters, according to the figures, while Benue has 3,057,225.
Ogun State is in ninth position with 3,037,981 registered voters, while Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,000,047.
Lagos Maintains Lead
The figures place Lagos significantly ahead of the other states in terms of registered voters, while Kano remains the only other state in the list with more than six million registered voters.
The size of the voter population in each state is expected to remain an important factor as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections and intensify their mobilisation efforts.
INEC continues to work on preparations for the elections, with voter data forming a key component of the electoral process.
