Nigerians have urged the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to swiftly arrest Senator Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, due to an alleged threat against Accord Party members ahead of the state’s upcoming governorship election on Saturday.
A video circulating on social media claims to show the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker addressing party supporters in Ilesa, who were protesting alleged attacks on APC members. In the video, the senator reportedly encourages APC supporters to confront Accord Party members wherever they find them and to stop them from voting in the election.
These alleged remarks have triggered widespread outrage, with many Nigerians calling for the senator’s immediate arrest and prosecution, raising additional concerns about voter safety during the election.
Babafemi Ojudu, an APC leader, reacted by urging the IGP to take prompt action, labeling the remarks as intolerable in a democratic system. “This is unacceptable in a democracy. Not even during military rule would a military official speak like this,” he expressed on his official Facebook page. “IGP Tunde Disu, over to you. We await action.”
Similarly, Osun State Governor and Accord Party candidate in the election, Ademola Adeleke, called for the senator’s immediate arrest and prosecution. Adeleke emphasized that the situation transcends politics and poses a national security threat, necessitating attention from President Bola Tinubu through the Office of the National Security Adviser. “I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has verified the video and assured me of immediate action,” Adeleke stated.
Many other Nigerians have taken to social media to voice their demands for the lawmaker’s apprehension.
In response, Fadahunsi denied making such statements in an interview with TVC News on Tuesday night, asserting that the viral video was artificially generated. “The video being circulated by Davido and his group is AI-generated,” he claimed.
