Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has criticized the arrest of Sunday Bisi, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, and is demanding his swift release. This statement was released on Saturday, August 15, 2026, by his spokesperson Mallam Olawale Rasheed, as the Osun governorship election was still underway.
The statement revealed that Bisi was apprehended at his Ilesa home soon after casting his vote. Adeleke noted that the PDP chairman was taken to an unknown location without any justification for the arrest being provided.
The governor condemned the arrest as a tactic to intimidate his supporters and accused the APC of collaborating with compromised security forces to prevent people from overseeing the election results collation.
Adeleke claimed there is a broader scheme aimed at allowing the APC unrestrained access to alter outcomes at collation centers and potentially overturn their election victories. He characterized these actions as an assault on democracy, urging all parties involved to refrain from utilizing state institutions to manipulate the election’s outcome.
He demanded the immediate release of Bisi and others he referred to as political prisoners throughout Osun State, emphasizing that elections should reflect the people’s choice, free from threats or coercion.
