Ronaldo Hints at Retirement

Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the 2026/27 season could be his final campaign as a professional footballer.

The Al-Nassr forward and Portugal captain made the revelation in an interview with Vogue, published on Sunday, shortly after marrying his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez.

Ronaldo, who began his senior career with Sporting Lisbon in 2002, said he wants to bring his remarkable career to an end while leaving behind a lasting legacy.

“This is probably my last year of football and I want to leave a spectacular legacy,” the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said.

The 41-year-old also revealed that he has already started thinking about life after football. He said he plans to stay active by travelling, spending more time with family, watching and playing padel, and enjoying the rewards of his lengthy career.

Ronaldo has won league titles in England, Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia and remains the leading goalscorer in men’s international football.

The Portuguese star has scored 976 goals for club and country and is just 24 goals away from reaching 1,000. He still has one year remaining on his contract with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo was absent from Al-Nassr’s opening league fixture against Al Fateh on Saturday, watching the match from the stands alongside his family.
