KASU Crisis: Over 200 Lecturers Leave University as ASUU Issues Two-Week Ultimatum

More than 200 professors and other academic staff have reportedly left Kaduna State University (KASU) over poor conditions of service and the alleged failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU Agreement, the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said.

The union has issued a two-week ultimatum to the university authorities and other relevant stakeholders to begin full implementation and domestication of the agreement, warning that failure to act could result in a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike.

ASUU-KASU Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, disclosed this on Monday at a press conference held at the union’s secretariat at Kaduna State University.

According to Abdullahi, the 2025 FGN-ASUU Agreement, which provides for improved conditions of service for academic staff in Nigerian universities, took effect in January 2026, but implementation has yet to begin at KASU.

He said the union had written several letters to the university management, Governing Council, the Visitor to the university and the Kaduna State Government, urging them to domesticate and implement the agreement in line with the law establishing the institution.

The union also engaged various stakeholders within and outside Kaduna State in an effort to resolve the dispute and maintain industrial harmony.

However, Abdullahi said that eight months after the agreement was signed, KASU had yet to commence implementation, while several federal and state universities had either implemented the agreement or announced timelines for implementation, including the payment of accrued arrears.
