The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has instructed the Super Falcons’ technical team to resign immediately. This decision comes after a challenging 2026 campaign, during which Nigeria failed to secure automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF Executive Committee conveyed the decision through a brief statement on Monday but did not provide specific reasons for the directive. They announced that the technical crew of the Super Falcons has been asked to step down without delay.
This action follows the Super Falcons’ disappointing performance in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Starting their Group C campaign with a loss to debutants Malawi, Nigeria saw Malawi advance to the final, where they were eventually defeated by Cameroon, who claimed their first WAFCON title.
Nigeria’s journey ended in the quarter-finals with a defeat to Cameroon, which cost them an automatic spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The NFF’s decision signals a significant technical overhaul for the Super Falcons as the federation gears up for the team’s future endeavors.
