Deji Adeleke, a businessman and father of Afrobeats star Davido, claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) spent approximately N60 billion on vote-buying during the Osun State governorship election. According to Adeleke, in certain areas, voters were reportedly offered up to N50,000 for a single vote.
While speaking in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, he mentioned that on election day, he prayed for voters to accept the money allegedly offered by the APC but to still cast their ballots for his brother, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“I prayed to God to let people take the money but still vote for Ademola Adeleke,” he stated.
Adeleke noted that reports of this alleged spending drove him to his room to pray specifically for his brother’s success.
He remarked, “We heard they spent N60 billion. In some places, votes were bought for as much as 50,000 for one vote.”
Governor Ademola Adeleke emerged victorious in the election, receiving 511,067 votes and defeating the APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who garnered 444,815 votes.
