A series of Russian missile strikes in Kyiv and nearby areas have resulted in the deaths of at least eight people, with over 30 individuals sustaining injuries, according to Ukrainian officials.
This extensive assault led to damage to residential buildings, warehouses, a children’s hospital, and a school, as reported by Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
Emergency teams were promptly dispatched to the affected locations to conduct searches in damaged structures and rescue those trapped beneath debris. So far, authorities have confirmed the rescue of two survivors from collapsed buildings.
Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the strikes during the night affected a children’s hospital, breaking windows and igniting nearby vehicles.
An educational institution also suffered damage while missiles hit an industrial sector in the Solomyanskyi district, located in the southwestern part of the city.
This attack has severely disrupted the city and its surrounding areas. Damage to electrical infrastructure has left thousands without power, prompting energy workers to restore electricity supplies.
The missile strikes extended beyond the capital city.
Tymur Tkachenko, Kyiv’s regional governor, reported one casualty and another person injured in an attack in the Brovary district.
Residents had been repeatedly instructed to take shelter overnight as Ukrainian authorities issued missile warnings and engaged air defense systems against threats approaching the capital.
These overnight attacks have raised concerns in neighboring countries.
Romania’s Defense Ministry reported that a drone briefly entered Romanian airspace close to the Ukraine border.
Romanian authorities detected the drone approximately 13 kilometers east of Galați before it crashed in an uninhabited area. A small fire was sparked but extinguished swiftly, and there were no reports of casualties or property damage.
The air alert was subsequently lifted in Romania.
Meanwhile, Poland stated it activated defensive air operations to safeguard its airspace amid the ongoing Russian attack near its eastern neighbor.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its forces targeted a facility involved in producing drone components and a weapons depot in Kyiv.
These claims have yet to be independently verified.
The recent strikes highlight the persistent danger faced by civilians in Kyiv and nearby regions as the conflict between Russian and Ukrainian forces continues.
