Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are preparing to move back to the United Kingdom later this month, according to reports confirmed by BBC News.
The couple is expected to leave their home in the United States and settle in a private residence outside London. Their return would mark a significant change for the Sussex family, who have lived in California since stepping away from royal duties in 2020.
Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to begin attending a British school in September.
King Charles Informed of the Move
King Charles was reportedly informed about the couple’s plans on Sunday.
The move was not discussed during Harry and Meghan’s visit to the King’s Highgrove residence in July. The BBC reports that the King was not aware of the relocation plans until last weekend.
However, the monarch is said to welcome the prospect of having more opportunities to spend time with his son and grandchildren privately.
There are currently no plans for Harry or Meghan to return to official royal duties. They will continue their lives as private members of the royal family.

Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, have also been informed about the Sussexes’ plans to return to Britain.
The development comes amid signs of improving relations between Harry and members of his family.
Harry and Meghan’s July visit with the King and Queen Camilla was described by Buckingham Palace as a private family occasion. It was particularly significant because the King had not seen his grandchildren in person for more than four years.
Family Relations Remain Complicated
Harry and Meghan moved away from Britain in early 2020 after stepping back from their roles as working royals. They subsequently established their home in California.
Their departure was followed by several public disagreements and tensions within the royal family, although recent developments appear to have opened the door to renewed private contact.
The couple had not travelled to the UK together since 2022, when they returned for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
Security Remains a Concern
Security arrangements are expected to remain an important issue for Harry and Meghan during their return.
Prince Harry has previously raised concerns about his family’s security when visiting Britain, and disputes over police protection have been a longstanding source of tension.
The planned move nevertheless represents a major new chapter for the Sussex family and could give Harry and Meghan more opportunities to maintain personal relationships with members of the Royal Family while continuing their lives outside official royal duties.
