Osun Poll: PDP Vows to Challenge Incumbency in 2027

The party’s governorship candidate in Nasarawa, Dr David Ombugadu, said the Osun result demonstrated that political power ultimately belongs to the people and cannot be guaranteed by incumbency or political alliances.

Ombugadu spoke on Thursday after the PDP state congress held at the party secretariat in Lafia, the state capital.

He said the 2027 election would depend largely on voters, urging residents to come out, cast their ballots and protect their votes.

According to him, the Osun election showed that the 2027 contest would not be business as usual, insisting that the strength of the people would be more important than the influence of sitting governors.

Ombugadu also said the PDP remained strong in Nasarawa despite the defection of some members to other political parties.

He recalled that the party won nine seats in the state House of Assembly in 2023 but currently controls seven after two lawmakers left the party.

The PDP candidate said the party would work to regain lost ground and target all 24 state Assembly seats, as well as the governorship, in 2027.

Meanwhile, PDP state chairman Dr Daniel Gimba said the Osun election had shown that financial influence could not permanently determine how Nigerians vote.

Gimba said growing political awareness among citizens was encouraging and urged voters to protect their ballots and ensure their choices were reflected in the final results.

He also disclosed that the party was gaining new members from other political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Gimba assured party members that the PDP was preparing for the 2027 elections and would establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances arising from the recent primaries.
