Four members of a family in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State have died after eating amala. Concerns about food contamination or poisoning were heightened when the family’s dog also reportedly died after consuming the same food.
In response, the Kogi State Government has swiftly ordered an investigation to uncover the reasons behind these deaths. Kingsley Fanwo, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, announced on Saturday that Governor Ahmed Ododo has instructed the Commissioner for Health to thoroughly look into the incident. The Governor expressed deep concern over this tragic event and emphasized the need to closely examine the potential causes, especially the possibility of food poisoning or contamination.
While the cause of death is yet to be determined, the investigation aims to clarify whether the consumed food was contaminated or if other factors contributed to the fatalities. As part of the inquiry, authorities will assess the family’s food and collect relevant evidence.
The government has called for public patience while health officials work to identify the cause. This incident has caused alarm in the community, given that the dog also perished after eating the same meal. However, conclusive evidence of food poisoning or contamination is still awaited as investigations continue.
