Tottenham Hotspur have signed Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City for a reported initial fee of £75 million ($102 million), taking the club’s spending in the transfer market beyond £300 million this window.
The 22-year-old joins Tottenham after two seasons at Manchester City in which he struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player.
Spurs are hoping the Brazilian can provide pace, creativity and attacking threat as they look to recover from a difficult Premier League campaign that saw them narrowly avoid relegation last season.
Savinho Excited by Tottenham Move
Savinho expressed his excitement about joining Tottenham and working with head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
“It’s taken a while, but I’m very happy to be here. It’s a wonderful opportunity at a brilliant club with one of the best managers in the world,” Savinho said in a Tottenham statement.
He added that his conversation with De Zerbi convinced him to make the move.
“As soon as I spoke to the head coach, I knew I had to come. He told me he wants to help me reach the highest level and I believe we can do that together, as a team,” he said.
De Zerbi Leads Tottenham Rebuild
The transfer is another major investment by Tottenham as De Zerbi continues his overhaul of the squad.
The Italian coach made an immediate impact at the end of last season, helping Spurs avoid relegation to the Championship for the first time in 49 years.
However, Tottenham’s new campaign began poorly, with De Zerbi’s team suffering a 3-0 defeat to Brentford on the opening weekend.
The arrival of Savinho is therefore expected to strengthen an attack that needs greater speed and creativity.
Spurs Continue Heavy Spending
Savinho becomes the latest major signing in Tottenham’s ambitious transfer campaign.
The club has also brought in Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke for significant fees, while Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Martin Dubravka have joined on free transfers.
With spending now exceeding £300 million, expectations will be high for De Zerbi to transform Tottenham’s fortunes.
