The transfer standoff surrounding Julián Álvarez has intensified, with Barcelona president Joan Laporta reaffirming his club’s interest in the Atlético Madrid striker, while Atlético has firmly rejected the possibility of a deal.
Laporta said Barcelona remain ready to sign Álvarez this summer if Atlético are willing to sell and confirmed that the club’s offer remains on the table until the end of the transfer window.
“We are still very interested in Julián Álvarez,” Laporta said, adding that Barcelona maintain “the utmost respect” for Atlético Madrid.
However, Atlético responded strongly, insisting there is “0% chance” of Álvarez being sold to Barcelona.
The Madrid club said the ongoing situation has already caused financial and social damage to the institution and stressed that the dispute is no longer simply about money.
Barcelona’s continued pursuit of the Argentina international could therefore set up a dramatic conclusion to the summer transfer window, with the two Spanish giants remaining firmly divided over Álvarez’s future.
