English actor Tim Curry, best known for his unforgettable performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at the age of 80.
Curry first portrayed the flamboyant character on stage before reprising the role in the 1975 film adaptation. The movie went on to become a global cult classic and established Curry as one of the most distinctive performers of his generation.
Beyond Rocky Horror, Curry demonstrated his versatility across film, television and theatre. He became widely recognised for playing the terrifying Pennywise in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King’s It.
He also appeared as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island and featured in popular films including The Hunt for Red October and Home Alone 2.
Curry was also a respected Broadway performer and received three Tony Award nominations during his distinguished stage career.
His death was confirmed by his manager to CBS, the BBC’s US news partner.
