The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed a viral video purportedly showing the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, making statements suggesting political support.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the DHQ described the video as fake and fabricated, stressing that it did not originate from the Chief of Defence Staff.
According to the military authorities, the statements attributed to Oluyede in the video are false and should be disregarded.
The DHQ said the video was created using artificial intelligence-generated manipulation, allegedly with the intention of misleading the public, misrepresenting the position of the Defence Chief and bringing the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.
The Defence Headquarters also reaffirmed that the Nigerian Armed Forces remains a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution, committed to its constitutional responsibilities and the defence of the country.
The military condemned the production and circulation of the video and warned those responsible, as well as anyone knowingly amplifying the material, to desist.
The DHQ urged members of the public to rely on information released through official military communication channels and to disregard the circulating video.
