Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, says his administration has not borrowed any money since he assumed office, despite continuing to service loans inherited from previous administrations.

Sani made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday, while discussing his administration’s spending, revenue generation and financial management.

According to the governor, Kaduna State currently spends about ₦6.7 billion every month on servicing loans inherited from previous administrations.

“Since I became governor, I’ve not borrowed with one kobo,” Sani said.

The governor attributed his administration’s decision not to take new loans to what he described as prudent financial management and careful prioritisation of government expenditure.

“It’s about being prudent. It’s about selecting or being very careful in where you invest the money,” he said.

Sani also described his administration as successful, pointing to achievements in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development and security.

550,000 Out-of-School Children Identified

Speaking on education, the governor disclosed that the state government had identified approximately 550,000 out-of-school children through a household-mapping exercise conducted across Kaduna State.

He said more than 300,000 of the identified children had subsequently returned to school, adding that the initiative remained ongoing.

According to Sani, the use of data from the household-mapping exercise has enabled the government to better identify affected communities and target interventions toward children who are out of school.

The governor said his administration would continue to focus on policies and programmes designed to improve education, strengthen infrastructure and enhance opportunities for residents across the state.
