[VIDEO] VDM’s Lawyer Alleges Illegal Kidney Removal From Over 10 Nigerian Youths

The lawyer to social media influencer VeryDarkMan, Marshall Abubakar, has alleged that more than 10 young Nigerians may have been victims of an illegal kidney-harvesting network involving medical practitioners and their agents.

Abubakar alleged that vulnerable youths were lured into undergoing medical procedures under false pretences, with their kidneys allegedly removed without proper informed consent.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday, the lawyer said the alleged scheme came to light after a young man approached the Martin Luther King Centre, an organisation headed by VeryDarkMan, with a medical report indicating that his left kidney was missing.

According to Abubakar, the centre subsequently sought independent confirmation of the medical findings at two hospitals in Abuja.

He said the absence of the young man’s left kidney was reportedly confirmed at the facilities, including a government medical centre in Jabi.

Alleged Payment and Identity Change

Abubakar further alleged that the young man received approximately $1,300 following the procedure.

He also claimed that the victim’s identity was changed and that an affidavit was obtained under another name in an alleged attempt to conceal details surrounding the operation.

The lawyer alleged that the case was not isolated, claiming that other young people in areas including Masaka, Nyanya and Mararaba may have been targeted through intermediaries or agents.

He said some of the youths were allegedly recruited by individuals who facilitated their contact with medical practitioners.

Millions Allegedly Made From Kidneys

Abubakar claimed that kidneys allegedly removed from some victims were subsequently sold for between ₦50 million and ₦70 million, while the individuals from whom the organs were allegedly taken received only a small portion of the money.

He described the alleged operation as a criminal enterprise and stressed that legitimate organ donation should be based on informed consent and must not involve financial inducement.

The lawyer also alleged that some families were not informed before the procedures and only became aware of what had happened after the cases came to light.

The allegations have raised serious concerns about the protection of vulnerable patients, medical ethics and the need for stronger oversight of organ donation and transplantation procedures.

However, the claims remain allegations and would require investigation and independent verification by the relevant authorities before responsibility can be established.
